Export of Iranian ceramic tiles to 150 countries

The head of Iran’s Decorative Tiles and Ceramics Association said: Iranian tiles and ceramics are exported to 150 countries in the world, and 80% of them are exported to Pakistan and Iraq.
According to Iran Economist, “Asghar Ahaniha” added in a press conference today (Tuesday): In the past years, we have seen the growth of Iranian products exports to different countries, and with the marketing done, we have penetrated the African market and even in the difficult and complex market. We have also established a market for ourselves in Russia.
He stated: In this industry, we must go in the direction that export consortia are formed in the country as much as possible.
According to this union official, the cost of transportation is one of the most important and determining indicators in the development of exports, for this reason, exporting to countries in the region and neighboring countries is a priority for producers.
Stating that some units send between 50 and 60 percent of their production to export markets, he pointed out that Iranian products are produced in different grades, the “excellent” grade of which is equal to European production.
Ahaniha continued: Most of the machines and production lines used in this industry are imported from Spain, Italy and China, however, with the capability of our country’s manpower, we have been able to internalize many of these devices.
He said: Between 25 and 30 percent of the costs of ceramic tiles in our country are related to human labor costs, however, low productivity, imposition of side costs (including electricity and gas outages) and the lack of growth of supporting facilities in line with the industry. Another reason is that Iranian products are expensive.
The head of the Decorative Ceramic Tiles Association of Iran noted: Pakistan with a population of 280 million people can be a great market for us, however, the high transportation costs (due to the lack of necessary railway lines to the border of Pakistan) as well as the imposition of tariffs and heavy customs duties by Pakistanis are the most important reasons for not realizing this issue.
Iran overtook China in exports to the countries of the region
In addition, Rosita Golpour, the secretary of the mentioned association, added: In the past decade, the share of decorative ceramic tiles in exports has grown significantly and is unrivaled in terms of production in the region.
He stated: Today, the decorative tiles and ceramics of our country are offered with a higher quality than Chinese products, and for this reason, we are considered a fierce competitor of the Chinese in the Middle East and Eurasia region.
Golpur named tiles and ceramics as the 7th strategic industry of the country according to the Ministry of Security’s opinion, and now its products are in the 7th quality category in the world.
He continued: Last year, 183 million square meters of decorative ceramic tiles were exported to different countries, of which 73% went to Iraq, 7% went to Pakistan, and the rest went to other countries. This export has grown seven percent compared to 2019.
The secretary of the Decorative Ceramics and Tiles Association of Iran noted: With the measures taken to develop the market since 2009, the export of Iranian products has increased from 48 countries to 150 countries.
He stated: In the last four years, the number of active units in this field of industry has increased from 25 units to 47 units, and with marketing, we took the regional market from China.
Golpour pointed out the problems of exporting to Iraq and Pakistan and said: Iraqi and Pakistani businessmen buy from us in rials, while we have to convert the received rials into dollars in the open market and then return them to the government at half the rate. The place of loss is the exporters.
