The tile and ceramic industry is one of the most important industries in Iran, especially in Yazd province, which has a long historical and cultural history, and in this province, tradition and industry are intertwined in the production of various types of tiles, ceramics, and pottery, and this industry and It has made art stable.
The word tile and ceramic was not common in the past in its current form and the word tile is from the Latin word “tegula” derived from the verb “tegere” which means “to cover” or “to cover” and this name was used in the Roman language for pieces Clay was used on the roof and was known as roof tiles, which prevented water from penetrating into the roofs. Also, the word ceramic is derived from the Greek word “kramos” which means “potter” or “baked clay”.

With the industrialization of Iran’s tile and ceramic industry and the introduction of tile production machines, for mass production in this field, a suitable space for starting a business was created. We were in the western region of Iran, which testifies to the 9,000-year history of the ceramic industry in Iran.

The tile and ceramic industry continued to exist in a traditional and manual way until 1339 AH, but in this year, with the establishment of tile and ceramic factories, the industrial form of tile and ceramic production entered Iran.
The first industrial production of tiles in Yazd province took place in the 1350s, and simultaneously with the expansion of this industry in Iran in the 1370s, Yazd found a special place and currently ranks first in Iran’s tile production.
Until 1357, tile and ceramic production in Yazd province was completely traditional; The most important remaining tilings in Yazd belong to the Timurid period (8th and 9th centuries AH), among these buildings we can mention Yazd Jame Mosque, Amir Chaqmaq Mosque, Seyyed Ruknuddin Mausoleum.

It is interesting that at the same time as these buildings were created in Yazd, similar buildings can be seen in Isfahan, Samarkand and Bukhara, which shows the transfer of the experiences of the masters of Yazd and Isfahan in making tiles to these cities.
The first industrial tile production factory in Yazd was the Yazd Tile Factory (1357), which produced single fired red tiles in small sizes.
Statistics show that more than 60% of the country’s tiles and ceramics are produced in this province, most of which are exported abroad, and this province alone is the fifth producer of ceramic tiles in the world.
One of the most important factors affecting the growth of the tile and ceramic industry in Yazd province is taking advantage of the cultural and historical quality of this province in making tiles and ceramics. The masters of tiling in this land have been engaged in the art of tiling for a long time, and this industry in Yazd province has a history of 700 years.
Pottery art has been prevalent in Yazd province since the past until now, and currently in Yazd province, Meibod city is considered as an important hub of pottery in this province and there are many pottery and tile making workshops in it.
The art of tile making has been woven into the fabric of the Yazidis and since long ago, this art has not only not faded, but has been revived with the creativity and taste of the people of this land, in such a way that this taste and beauty caresses the eyes of the people of the world
